Treatment Pathways
Successful management of ADHD typically involves a multi-modal, individualized approach tailored to what works best for each person.
One individual might benefit from a treatment regimen comprised of ADHD medication, dietary adjustments, physical activity, and behavioral counseling, while another might find relief through supplements, mindfulness practices, and regular exposure to nature.
Fortunately, there are a wide range of effective treatment options available for adults, teens, and children experiencing ADHD. Determining the right combination of treatment takes research, planning, organization, and persistence.
While ADHD Assessment Clinic does not prescribe medication, or offer therapy, your assessment results are certified by a licensed Doctor of Psychology and therefore are widely accepted for treatment by next steps practitioners and clinics. We are also happy to assist with reporting for accommodations requests with work or education organizations. Accommodations typically involve extra time for tests, quiet testing spaces, or access to assistive technology.
Medication
To access medication to treat ADHD, you will first need to find a prescribing physician, typically either a general practitioner, internist, or psychiatrist, or a pediatrician for children, who is familiar with ADHD and the medication options available and will accept the results of your assessment to make the prescription.
Medication to treat ADHD ranges from stimulant drugs such as Adderall or Ritalin to non-stimulant medications like Strattera or Wellbutrin. It is ideal to work with a practitioner who is knowledgeable with treatments for ADHD and approachable regarding options and follow-up as you implement treatment.
Therapy
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) may be a good choice for both adults and children experiencing ADHD. For adults, a qualified therapist can work with you to develop coping strategies, improve time management, and address any coexisting conditions like anxiety or depression.
For children and teens, CBT equips them with coping strategies, while parent training programs can concurrently empower caregivers to create supportive home environments.
ADHD coaching is also widely available and is typically offered by individuals with personal experience with ADHD. While many ADHD coaches are not licensed therapists, they can provide personalized support and accountability to help individuals overcome challenges and reach their goals.
Lifestyle Adjustments
Exercise, healthy food choices, supplements, organizational strategies, practicing mindfulness and yoga, time outdoors and developing routines have all been shown to reduce ADHD symptoms and improve overall well-being for both adults and children. A qualified therapist or coach may assist with these strategies, and plentiful resources exist online as well.
