Learning Disabilities & ADHD

About half of all people with ADHD, children and adults, have a comorbid oral language deficit. Of children, 20 - 60 percent with a diagnosis of ADHD also have one or more learning disabilities.

Given this overwhelming occurrence, ADHD Assessment Clinic includes testing for dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia in all of our ADHD assessments, for both children and adults.

We believe including this testing is critical to inform the results of the assessment most accurately for ADHD, and to provide you with the most accurate diagnosis possible so that the treatment you pursue accounts for all contributing factors.

Recognizing Dyslexia

Dyslexia, a pervasive challenge, transcends mere reading difficulties. It disrupts fundamental language skills, impairing phonological processing and symbol recognition. Contrary to popular belief, dyslexia is not a visual impairment but a linguistic hurdle. It affects reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and even oral communication. With its roots in neurobiological variances, dyslexia necessitate tailored interventions to mitigate its impact.

Deciphering Dyscalculia

Mathematics can be a daunting terrain, particularly for those grappling with dyscalculia. This learning disability encompasses a spectrum of challenges, from basic numeracy to complex mathematical reasoning. Issues may arise in mastering number facts, computational accuracy, conceptual understanding, and linguistic comprehension within mathematical contexts. While less prevalent than dyslexia, dyscalculia demands nuanced strategies to foster mathematical proficiency.

Understanding Dysgraphia

Dysgraphia poses a formidable barrier to effective written expression. Individuals grapple with translating their thoughts into coherent written form, often marred by grammatical errors and organizational struggles. Despite its prevalence - estimated between 8 to 15 percent - it remains less acknowledged than dyslexia. Coexisting frequently with learning disorders like dyslexia and ADHD, dysgraphia can significantly impede academic progress.
